Black Cloud over Sweden is the true story of a group of young Englishmen’s valiant attempts to sell a ‘new’ and ‘revolutionary’ product in Sweden during 1957-58. They thought they were going to make a fortune, and have Swedish girls throwing themselves at their feet. But the product wasn’t exactly revolutionary, and the girls weren’t exactly easy…… You can relive all of their bungled efforts, and much more, in the book……… To read the first chapter click on 'Preview this book'. A most entertaining story. To write about the selling of a relatively mundane product and make it humorous and interesting takes a very rare talent. The author brings out the characters in the book in a refreshing way and gives a good insight into life in Sweden for that period. I found it a thoroughly good read and once started could not put it down, a real page turner.

This hilarious chronicle of the antics of a team of English salesmen may seem exaggerated, but I very much doubt if it is - the book has the definite ring of authenticity. And while the mistranslations of Swedish speech are highly amusing, the clincher for me was the book’s refreshingly novel treatment of sex : I can’t make up my mind which I found funnier - the caricatures of the studs; or the erotic catastrophes of the aspirants.

Reads like an enjoyable sit-com! An amusing tale concerning the exploits of four young Englishmen in 1950s Sweden, some of whom are more successful than the others at selling their product - British carbon paper. Naturally, Sweden is not short of paper, but that won't stop these intrepid young and single Englishmen from desperately trying to flog as much of the stuff as they possibly can, however they can! It's also a story about life in an exotic and enticing, peaceful and quiet 1950s Sweden. Anyone with some kind of connection to Sweden will enjoy the journey, and I look forward to seeing it translated into Swedish, so that many more will be able to relive the good old days - with a warm smile specially reserved for those curious Englishmen and their copious amounts of carbon paper!
