Stanley's Story Volume 3 From mature student to East Hill Street - What a journey! Stanley recalls his adventures with unruly students at Lancaster University and introduces us to his many tutors. He tells of holidays to Los Angeles, Montreal, New York and an amazing trip across the USA in a Greyhound bus! By 1982 Stanley had graduated and become the Manager of The Pendle Heritage Centre. Again we are introduced to a host of interesting and influential people met along the way. Then Stanley became involved with the Ellenroad Spinning Mill. He talks of the development of plans to turn Ellenroad into a Heritage Attraction. There was an inspection of the buildings before any work took place and there is a wonderful photograph of Stanley atop the chimney. Many of the existing buildings had to be demolished and there are fascinating descriptions of how demolition contractors work. The chapter titles clearly explain the contents and the work done at Ellenroad; as Stanley is likely to say,... More > what you see is what you get! Chapter titles include Management, the Mechanicals, the Buildings, the Chimney, Funding, Hotels and Car Parking. We then travel with Stanley on his first trip to Australia. Back in UK we are entertained with the story of the Whitelees Engine, how it was given to the Ellenroad Trust, moved to the site (after the construction of a very deep pit), and finally re-built. The photographs really do help to show the enormity of the tasks involved. The final chapters include Stanley moving house, starting a new job at Rochdale Electric Engineering and an Australian wedding. This book provides a fascinating insight to Stanley's life. Written in an easy-to-read style, it is informative and entertaining and definitely well worth reading.< Less
