"Nice book! " This was a surprising book! I knew of the architect a little but was not familiar with all of the work. The projects are illustrated mostly with exquisite pencil renderings. This is so refreshing compared to the same old computer drawings. I also liked that there was a larger theme that inspire the projects. I think it is great to see projects that are about tangible ideas. The book was relatively expensive, but I think it was worth it. -Q

"review" this book is comprised of mostly residential projects- built and unbuilt- which explore the theme of "excavation". an introductory essay explains the derivation of the theme. projects are illustrated with pencil renderings drawn by the architect.

"Nice work!" The essays are wordy, but overall useful in understanding the projects. The projects are for the most part, really nice. They are mostly smaller scale projects- each defined by an architectural concept. I want to say that the work is reminiscent of Steven Holl and his first book "Anchoring" in some ways. But maybe that is a stretch? In any case, its a really fine publication.

"Bringing a High Concept down to Earth..." I just received my copy of Stephen Chung's fine book and was pleased at such a novel approach to such a lofty subject. I would consider myself a skilled novice on the subject- and find this book filled with a prose that allows both the expert and beginner alike to enjoy and learn about a fresh look at one of humanities basic needs - architecture! Stephen's passion and teaching skills are displayed with great skill and his design concepts are fantastic. He is an architect worth watching. He has what it takes to cross over into the mainstream public consciousness-perhaps the next IM Pei, Frank Lloyd Wright or Gehry. This book also would make a fine gift!

"Interesting." Very interesting compilation of projects. The hand sketches are nice, and allows even non-architects to appreciate the design process.
