Hold on to your hats. Get ready for some dynamite on-the-set stories and some remarkable behind-the-scenes photographs as you grow up through the eyes of Stephen Lodge – a true adventurer and cowboy – on and off the set. Roll the camera! Clap the slate! Get ready for Lodge’s brand new book: “And Action!”
You might say Stephen Lodge was born on the set. At least his initial interest in movies, especially Westerns, began when his father brought home the family’s first television set. From that point forward, Steve’s love for everything Western was unstoppable. Although he may have started his life like most other kids of the 1950s, he began to realize all too quickly that with an aunt and uncle in the movie business he had an opportunity of a lifetime within his grasp. So, with his younger brother, Bobby, Steve set off on a true adventure; a stimulating journey that would find him on both sides of the camera.

"Boyd Magers' "Western Clippings" May/June 2008" And Action is a marvelous compilation by Stephen Lodge of photos and stories from his life in and around the Hollywood motion picture business. Because his aunt worked in publicity at Monogram and his uncle was a script supervisor, as a youngster Steve lived an idyllic B-western life we all as kids only dreamed about – being allowed on various sets and getting to meet the stars in their heyday. Now Steve vividly recalls those memories relating wonderful anecdotes about Johnny Mack Brown, Marshall Reed, Ken Maynard, Crash Corrigan, Andy Devine, guy Madison, Dick Jones, Jimmy Hawkins, Roy Rogers, Richard Boone, Gene Barry, John Russell, Sam Peckinpah, Jim Davis, and so many more. One of the rare, true treats of the book are the candid photos Steve captured as a youngster – photos of a wonderful bygone era you’ll fid nowhere else – Stan Jolley, Frank Ellis, Johnny Mack Brown, Marshall Reed, Noel Neil, Richard Boon,... More > Jimmy Ellison, Pat Buttram, Gene Autry, Andy Devine, Gail Davis, jimmy Hawkins, Dick Jones, House peters, Jr., Greg Barton, Mandy Schaefer, Nick Adams – and so many more. You’ll also find hauntingly rare never before seen locations photos – ghosts of the old western streets we learned to know and love – Iverson’s, Corriganville, Cedar Lake, Melody Ranch, Walker Ranch, KCET Western Street. Pioneertown, Columbia and Republic back lots. Steve also relates working as an extra on “Fury”, his later days as a costumer on “Dundee and the Culhane”, “Duchess and the Dirtwater Fox” and others; time spent as a stuntman at Corriganville shows, his graduation to co-scripter with actor Steve Ihnat on the classis rodeo film “The Honkers” and so much more. He even includes an interview with one of our favorite leading ladies, Jane Adams. I can’t say enough good about this loving look back at a better time we wish still existed. Our loftiest recommendation. So adjust the lights, roll the camera, clap the slate, AND …. ACTION!< Less
