At fifty years of age, Mark Johnson finds that his life is collapsing around him. Every aspect of his life--physical, sexual, emotional, professional, financial--is going downhill. After an other-worldly encounter--or was it?--he is strangely rejuvenated. With some mysteriously endowed gifts of health and intelligence, he is able to realize all of the success that had previously eluded him. Life is a dream come true in a world of heightened sensuality. However, his extraordinary gifts are housed in a flawed personality. He falls prey to the basic impulses of his personality and helplessly alienates the people closest to him. A few bad choices precipitate his decline and he ends up suicidal and alone. He's morally aware enough to realize what he has done and, despite his age, immature enough to have done it. "A Dirty Window" is an entertaining exploration of the male psyche through a darkly-coloured wish fulfillment fantasy. Movie rights are available.

I finished reading your novel last night. I'm breathless. It's a riveting, refreshing and revealing read. Despite the cartoon like characterizations--men are ruled by their dicks; women are either maternal, whores, or often both-- the book works because of its strong introspective moments that define our humanity. I found the plot very engaging -- a blend of the movie "Phenomenon" and the real life adventures (or misadventures) of Tiger Woods. It reminds me of something my father used to tell me when I was growing up: "I wish I could be 20 years old again and know what I now know." But I must admit, I was somewhat puzzled by the ending. Why would a narcissistic, totally selfish genius want to commit suicide? Why would such a self-absorbed superman want to mark the end his life with a great act of generosity (the Will?). Who is the real Mark? As a male reader, I greatly enjoyed your novel. It's full of twists and turns with just enough supernatural wacky things so... More > as not to distract from the serious underlying theme of the book-- men are jerks and will remain jerks as long as they allow their oversize ego and their other not so big head to dictate their life. Kudos to you for having the courage to write a novel about the male psyche (and Achilles heel) in such a self-deprecating way. Georges Benay< Less
