Tool Town By Steve Robinson From the very first lines onwards I was catapulted back into my own childhood. My father was a carpenter, you see, and, instead of helping Mum in the kitchen I was helping Dad in the workshop, getting to know Fret, Hack and Daddy Mallet, Grandpa Chisel, Tommy Trowel and the rest of the Tool Town inhabitants near Wishing Well Hill. I thought it was delightful and inventive, and even gave me a few chuckles--especially when the fish outwitted Lump and his dad. One expects the readers to have some understanding of who Lump, Broad and Tennant are--at least among the grown-ups--as no doubt most kids will want to have their mums and dads read the stories to them at bedtime--naturally, I would want that, if I were a kid. Great concept; the narrative gave me an instant colour image of a town of tools, squabbling with a neighbour here or there, going on adventure or simply minding their daily business. The little gem of a book is a great tool with which to teach... More > children the purpose of a plethora of useful implements. Oh, and I really like the idea of the domidoms!
