MUSINGS OF A MONKEY is the first ever book by Bristol-based blogger Steven Baxter. (Look at how I am pretending to be someone else, talking about me!) It combines popular and lesser-known blogposts from the Enemies of Reason, Warm Cherryade and Farewell Prozac blogs with plenty of fresh material, including a hastily-cobbled-together chapter on phonehacking, called “Hastily-Cobbled-Together Chapter on Phonehacking”, to try and desperately appear to be more up-to-date than it really is. There are funny bits and sad bits. There are bits about biscuits. There are parodies, spoofs and all kinds of jolly japes. You’ll love it.

This is what journalism everywhere ought to be like: painstaking, clever and relentlessly fair; never demonising easy targets; always chasing the deeper cui bono.
I was determined to only rate this after I had read it all - I promise to come back and modify when I've finished it. I'm on page 8 and had my first lol moment - "...; without it, I'd just be a rather sour-faced sadsack hammering away in the spare bedroom about things that annoy me. And that would never do. That just wouldn't do, at all." Baxter is the voice inside many of us that we can't or won't let out. Read his book, its therapy.
