"Bishop Sherrod C. Johnson" Mr. Smith's collection of writings by the late Bishop Sherrod Charlotte Johnson(1897-1961)is stimulating for those interested in the history of American Pentecostalism. Even though Johnson did not enter the movement till 1920, he had a profound effect on it. One thing I wish Mr. Smith would have done and that would have been to give a more detailed history of the work and impact that Bishop Johnson had. We know that Bishop Johnson came out under the ministry of Bishop Robert C. Lawson and in fact was one of the original incorporators of Lawson's Church of Our Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. Prior to Johnson's depart from Lawson's church movement in 1933, Lawson sent Johnson to pastor the Phildephia Church of Christ in 1920, ordained Johnson as an elder and later bishop over the states of North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The Philadelphia Church of Christ (now known as the Church of The Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith) became his... More > headquarters and at one time was one of the largest African-American Pentecostal churches in the United States. In July 1949 Ebony magazine listed Bishop Johnson as one of the most widely listened to radio preachers. After his death in 1961, he was succeeded by Bishop S. McDowell Shelton. The group's current leader is Bishop Omega Shelton. There are many African-American religious organizations they claim their spiritual legacy to Bishop Sherrod C.Johnson. Which include the Whole Truth Church of the Lord Jesus of the Apostolic Faith and the Holy Temple Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of the Apostolic Faith. In the future I trust that Mr. Smith would publish additional works by Bishop Johnson, including the 1958 debate with Mr. Rudd. Alexander C. Stewart< Less

"Re: Bishop SC. Johnson." Well, Bro. Smith, You may remember me. I am the Sis. that used to play the organ in the Washington DC Tape Church. I remember Bro. Dennis Smith seems like and there was the Bishop and his wife and the sister. Sorry I cant remember all the names. I was also in Tennessee when the Georgia saints came when the Tape Churh was run by Bro. Bass. But we now fellowship in NJ, under Elder Campbell. He has a broadcast on 800 am. Comes on at 10:30 on Monday nights. You can get it here on line at www.wtmrradio.com on Monsay nights at the same time. Of course he is keeping the teachings of Bishop SC Johnson alive, bringing the people into the remembrance of Bishop Johnsons ways. Bishop Johnson bought the Gospel to the world and by it will we be saved if we keep in memory what has been preached by him. Bishop SC Johnson is the only preacher that I know of that offered the Entire religious world $500,000.00 to prove him wrong in one thing he preached. And of course... More > no one ever got it. And as far as the debates, he won each one. He stopped the mouth of all false prophets. Now, many preachers are out here using his gospel and are too lifted up to admit that they got it from him. That is a wicked spirit. I mean when you see a woman with the long dress, cotton stockings and unstraightened hair, first thing I say is, oh she is definitely Bishop Johnson. That style is originally his. Well, even though Bishop SC Johnson is Gone, his word is still ringing though out the land. And we are blessed to have it. Peace Be.< Less
