Steve Waling's poems set out to trigger the British States listening system, he addresses the eavesdroppers, mixing skeleton key words and everyday skeletal observations. Confuse the enemy with reality is the tactic, the listeners in dwelling as they do in a paranoid world of suspicious cats and militant gadgets. Steve's poems are in fact a meditation on the ridiculous nature of power and of the fear of power. Yet there is the hint that though the key dissident words are tangled in the ordinary, they may actually be what they say they are, revolutionary terrorist bombs calling GCHQ. John G Hall.
