"Gothic Literature Over Time" is a research-based project focusing on comparisons between the genres of fairy tales and Gothic literature. The author draws from the origins of Walpole's "The Castle of Otranto" as the beginnings of Gothic literature in 1764, presenting an argument that Gothic literature owed much of its origins to the already established historical literary fairy tale traditions of the day as well as the oral narrative fairy tale traditions of the time. Going into the 19th century, both genres would continue to develop and become more accessible and popularly accepted in society. In the 20th century, Gothic literature would continue to grow and develop, coming full circle in more contemporary times as the fairy tale and Gothic genre traditions would continue to interact and influence each other.
