Jones County was formed in 1779 from Craven County. Jones county was never subdivided, therefore the reader may use the Craven County records for locating older era names and road routes (already transcribed by this author).Jones County Road, Bridge and Mill Records are found in the miscellaneous county records for Jones County. This location usually infers a very small collection, which is certainly true here. However, some counties didn’t preserve any of their records, especially mill records, of which there are two mills included in this book. In addition I located a couple of sheets of papers dealing with clerk fees which document the Ordinary licenses (typically Ordinary bonds are preserved), which is included here – as the old 18th century records. The Road and Bridge records are contained in two folders, dating from 1847 to 1898. The mill folder has two mills both from 1808.
