New Hanover County, N.C. - Miscellaneous Land Records - Vol. 2 (1748-1950)

ByStewart Dunaway

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
New Hanover County was formed in 1729, from Craven County which was formed from the original County of Bath (1705). New Hanover “birthed” several counties, beginning in 1734, forming Bladen and Onslow. In 1750, Duplin County was formed. Then in 1764, Brunswick was formed (part of Bladen and New Hanover). Finally, in 1875 Pender County was the final child of New Hanover. Certainly an old county, yet, none of the early colonial records IN THIS collection survive (as well as the road, bridge and ferry records). Miscellaneous land records are a “catch all” of land disputes, agreements, surveys, procession, etc. This two-box collection is placed in alphabetical order and not date order. Therefore, Box 1 is “A-M” and Box 2 “P-S” both boxes span the years of 1748 to 1950. New Hanover County also has a 1-box collection of Ejectments (land disputes) planned for a future release. This volume contains the survey plats and other documents – again – in alphabetical order – not in date order.
