Perquimans County, N.C. - Road Records - (1844-1869) Vol 4

ByStewart Dunaway

Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Perquimans County was formed in 1668 from Albemarle County – the original county (1664 – abolished in 1739). This is clearly one of the oldest in the State, as the east coast was certainly the beginning. Perquimans (along with other counties) was reduced in size in 1779, with the formation of Gates Co. This is the fourth volume in this large collection of records. There are five fibred boxes, of which one volume per box is scheduled (as time permits). In addition there is a Perquimans Co. Ferry and Mill book as well. This east-coast county has a very nice and broad collection. This book contains all of Box 4 and part of Box 5 (the last box). The attempt by this author is to include Civil War era records. From 1870 forward the focus (generally speaking) pertains to road reports. After the war, the shift to Townships begin. The point is, the records remaining in Box 5 provide less information to road and bridge location (although still an excellent source of surnames and dates).
