Stokes County, N.C. - Road and Bridge Records - Vol. 3 (1835-1849)
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
Stokes County was formed in 1789 from part of Surry County. Surry County was formed from Rowan in 1771, like a number of counties after the Regulation War. Stokes resides on the west side of Rockingham County, which was carved out of the northern part of Guilford County in 1785, just four years prior to Stokes being created. From west to east, Surry, Stokes, Rockingham, Caswell and Person County follow the Virginia border, and almost every one of these counties are literally the same north-south size. ALSO the reader needs to be aware that Stokes County will be carved up losing its Southern part to the formation of Forsythe (1849) Co. Therefore, the records in this book will use rivers and locations that reside in both counties – today.
Stokes County has the largest collection of road and bridge records for the entire state. Ten boxes contain records from the 18th century well into the modern times of the 20th century. Many volumes are required to cover this collection. This volume contains 2-boxes.
