This incredible African story of love and tenderness, at a time against all odds and deep seated traditions, speaks to a person's heart completely and touches all the senses of body and soul. My hope is that every person is fortunate enough to read this work of art as they will undoubtedly feel the richness that the author and artist has created in this canvass of words. I truly look forward to a sequel.

This is a beautiful tale about a Zulu boy and Jewish girl who need to break away from the old-fashioned traditions and norms of their parents' generations. It is told with such a keen eye and attention to detail that the reader is transported. Ronen uses perfect imagery without any superfluous word. I think his ability to evoke a sense of place is excellent, as is the way he compels his readers to turn the page at the end of each chapter. He also deal with actual issues like rape and hiv aids which filter through the lives of his characters. I couldn't put it down and read in one sitting. I highly recommend it can't wait for his next novel.

The Goat Herder is one of the most impressive books I have read recently. It is a love story that is beautifully written, touching and gentle. The writing style is so much different and better than the typical romance novel. An absorbing story about the challenges of love in a world where the cultures and backgrounds are miles away from each other, and where two beautiful people are trying to beat the impossible with their love. The two worlds and the challenges faced by the characters are very well described throughout the story. The book keeps fascinating and triggering your mind all along: Will it / can it work for them this time? Knowing with your mind that it wont but hoping with your heart that it will. I find it almost unbelievable that this is the writer's debut work, and I am already looking forward to reading his next one. Highly recommended!

A gem of a debut. Simple and beautifully written, the forbidden love between the main characters touches you deeply, the challenge of it pulls you into the story. Ronen's descriptions of the African savannah are vivid and exquisite in their detail. He brings the Zulu and Jewish cultures together in a way I have never seen before, showing the subtle similarities between the two which are surprising. The ending is just a beginning... May The Goat Herder be read and enjoyed by many.
