The play is considered to be Mamet’s most celebrated work. Since the play deals with the lives of salesmen, it is often compared to “Death of a Salesman” written by Arthur Miller. The basic difference is in the attitude and the actions of the protagonists of these plays. Arthur Miller’s salesman keeps on doing drudgery without getting due rewards, but in “Glengarry Glenn Ross” the salesmen apply all the techniques, fair or unfair, to achieve their ends. “Glengarry Glen Ross” uses the concept of death as a point of beginning for more powerful social criticism, whereas Arthur miller’s play “Death of a Salesman” eulogizes the death of the American Dream.
