“If I Were You” was written in January 2006. The original title was “If I Were You” but the author changed the title during the writing, but eventually he reverted to the original title. Alan did not want to launch that play in the same year because the Stephen Joseph Theatre had already planned to produce revivals of “Intimate Exchanges” and “Woman In Mind.” Unfortunately, on 21st of February, 2006, Alan Ayckbourn suffered a stroke, and consequently Tim Luscombe became the director of “Intimate Exchanges” and the production of “Woman In Mind” was eventually dropped altogether.
