This book is a fun-format biography that tells of Sue Merrell's career as a newspaper woman and theater reviewer. It's a diversion from her magnificent fiction, but her writing style is entertaining as ever as she skips from one adventure to the next in each new chapter. So enjoyable is this read that you feel like you are right there participating in those adventures with her.

"Laughing for a Living" had me in stitches! It's a delightful memoir of a career in journalism that was rich in contacts and richly enjoyed. Ever wonder how Tony Curtis, James Earl Jones, Julie Newmar and other celebrities were unscripted and without the cameras rolling? "Laughing for a Living" takes readers on a romp through what it's like to preview and review some of the world's most beloved performers. It's a fun, fun read. Don't miss this one!

Laughing for a Living by Sue Merrell is a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at her 39-year career as a journalist and theatre reviewer. Told in short episodes of random order, the glue that holds the book together is Sue’s love of the theatre from childhood to the present. A theatre reviewer must think on her feet, be prepared for anything and – yes – be ready to laugh. There are unexpected and revealing moments in interviews with stars such as Tony Curtis, Bette Midler, Jerry Lewis and Mickey Rooney. An easy page-turner, Sue’s words flow with warmth and wit as she describes her colorful life and career, both filled with unexpected delights.
