"Review on Sunita Grant's Photobook" Sunita Grants Photobook is focusing on the act of eating and the way we eat. There are two different people eating two different types of food from different cultures. The images are in full colour, two to a page, every other page. The book seems to be giving a very intimate view of something that is never really paid attention to, either because it a regular everyday action that is a natural act, just like breathing or because it is viewed as rude to watch someone eat. The title "Eating In London" works very well for this book, in ways it suggest that the contents of the book will give you an idea of the best restaurants in London, this compliments the fact that the food being consumed is from different cultures, therefore reinforcing her idea of London being a multi-cultural city. My automatic reaction to these images is hunger, wanting to actually eat the food that is in each picture. I believe these images would work well... More > as illustration in an unconventional recipe book. The front and back covers a very simple, black with the title of the book and the her name in white. Within each image the person eating is very involved in the process,"Talbert eating rice and chicken" is the best example of how personal these images are, he's using his hands instead of the usual knife and fork to eat. This could be an indirect reference to culture and what is viewed as an acceptable way to eat within them, in the images "Leah eating sushi" she eats with only chop sticks, never putting them down to use her fingers unlike Talbert. The way the images a coupled together on each page reinforces the intimacy of the images. It also, for me, plays on the fact that when we eat, most of the times, we do so within a group or in two's, and having two images per page is the equivalent of this for me. The food is very colourful, especially the sushi, this makes the food seem even more appetising. The book is largely image lead. The only text is a brief introduction as what the book is about and also the titles separating the sections of the book. The general lay out works comfortably and the images flow easily into each other. Over all i feel the production of the book is a solid one and is very effective.< Less
