A Stranger In My Own Skin

This book/workbook was put together for women who are entering the ‘change’ in their life, hopefully bringing equilibrium to your body, mind and soul before you enter into the passage of rite. It is of course something women have been facing for thousands of years, although back in times gone by a woman’s life expectancy was much shorter and therefore they had probably passed away before the onset of this stage in their life. So what is a very normal process in a woman’s life can sometimes be a very challenging time, as it was for me. A combination of stress and hormonal imbalance caused me to have a ‘breakdown’, so I hope that through my experience of these peri-menopausal years in my life, I can share with you some of the challenges I faced and how I coped with these, using simple and practical solutions.

Jun 7, 2018I was recommended to read this book when I came into a time in my life where my hormones had gone into tormoil and as the book describes- I was like a stranger in my own skin. Scared to leave the house, anxiety at a high, panic attacks, low moods, tears etc. This book at the time helped me in so many ways and gave me the best thing I needed...HOPE. Written by someone whom themselves had suffered badly and came out the other end - it was the success story I needed to read about. This book gives you great advise and tips to help you get out of the trap and to start to re-build yourself. I can’t thank this lady enough for coming into my life with her wonderful pages of wisdom and guidance. More true success stories like this need to be published to help all those suffering. I also love the way this book offers alternative advise to anti-depressants!! Thank you so much!
Mar 19, 2018This is a beautifully written book that is honest and open about one woman's struggle going through a stressful time during the menopause.written with humour and without difficult medical jargon I found this difficult subject an absolute joy to read .she explains the confusion of feelings and search to find some relief of physical symptoms that cause discomfort during this stage of life . She illustrates alternative options to the regular prescription drugs given by the medical practices that anyone can try for themselves as she did with much success . So through her findings was driven to write this book with the intention of helping others try to understand what is happening to themselves and ways to try and overcome the struggle . A lovely little book with helpful simple tips to aid you through this journey
Feb 11, 2018This is the book that every mother should gift her daughter because to be fore warned is to be fore armed. As Susan bares her soul to tell her story we can each see a little of ourselves and the light at the end of the tunnel. The gift that she gives is for the journey through the dark. She shares her wealth of knowledge and experience to enable us to recognize our symptoms and explore for ourselves using the tools that her experiences have given her, to discover what is best for us our bodies and minds to redress our balance as we move into and through the menopausal phase.
Dec 7, 2017I found this book to be really useful and a pleasure to read. Susan uses her own experiences and blends them with great advice and a load of common sense. As soon as I started reading I knew I had found just what I needed, it was as if the author was speaking directly to me, her experiences seemed to mirror my own. I can't thank Susan enough for writing this highly informative and yet easy to read book and I would recommend it to any woman approaching or dealing with the menopause.
Nov 8, 2017I found this a really lovely book to read, nicely written, and I read it first time in one sitting, dipping into whichever chapter drew me in. It felt like talking to a wise but humble friend. Each chapter brought different insights and perspectives, including a chapter for men (which I am). I think this book will be really useful and a lovely companion to many people of all sorts of ages and genders - anyone with a mum, sister, partner, helping them to understand more about themselves or women in their lives, but also putting a perspective on how people generally face change - how we can fall out of touch with ourselves and not know why, and how we can find our way through and up and out the other side. It's also really interesting to read how the author experienced different sorts of medical and therapeutic advice, and how a gentle engaging with her own soul and her subconscious helped her the most (although I am biased - being a hypnotherapist!) I have already been recommending it... More > and have given copies to my clients. I sincerely hope that this lovely book will spread and that many people will benefit from it's gentle, compassionate wisdom.< Less
