I became aware of Susan’s work after becoming a Myspace friend with her and subscribing to her blog of marvellous poems. I wasn’t however aware that Susan was having a book of her poems published; at the time I was selfishly promoting (and still am) my own book so wouldn’t have considered that anyone else that I had friend requested was also going down the same road. It wasn’t until I dropped in on Susan’s Myspace page ‘Maddwitch Priestess of the Wildwoods’ that I saw a link to her book on Lulu. So here I am writing a review for an excellently sensitive book of poetry and short stories; some of the poems date back as far as 1969. Susan has a way with her words that can immediately transport you back to the places and situations of your life’s memories. Covering subjects such as rural walks and nature through the four seasons; to love, life and the inevitable loss of life (and the loss of other members of our families – our pets). But there is also humour in the book as well; some of... More > Susan’s family have made contributions and ‘Werds’ by Adrian Small had me in stitches! Another funny poem by Susan is ‘It’s a Rip Off’ which expresses Susan’s frustration with a badly wound toilet roll. Believe you me; Susan touches on subjects that you think only bother you, but soon you realise that these minor irritations in life are actually funny and poems like this make you warm to the author’s sense of humour. I’m not sure if I have a favourite part of ‘Rainbows End Poems of Life and Love’ but one that rings true to me is ‘Friends’. I’m certain Susan won’t mind if I quote from this lovely poem:- The world loves a failure Drag you down as you go They wait till you lose Then say “I told you so!” But the poem does end on a positive note and explains the true value of friendship. I recommend this book to anyone who loves sensitive poetry and has a sensitive soul. BRILLIANT!< Less
