Lit 1125 H Women In Literature Honors

This course is an examination and exploration of women as subjects in and authors of literature, with an emphasis on 19th and 20th century works. It is aimed at advanced students who have a firm grasp of literary history and have developed their critical reading and analysis skills. The course emphasizes both the similarities among the women and the differences due to the diversity in ethnicity, socio-economic status, age, and nationality. This spring trimester’s reading list includes authors such as Bronte, Angelou, Wharton, Morrison, Chopin, Chekhov, De Beauvoir, and more (titles: The Second Sex or “MacBeth,” Jane Eyre, The House on Mango Street, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Beloved or Song of the Solomon, Daisy Miller, The House of Mirth, Their Eyes Were Watching God, The Awakening, Incidents in the Life of a Slave Girl, Madame Bovary, and Three Sisters).
