Wade Nash is lonely. He lost his wife, Catherine, to a car accident after moving down to central Florida to live out their dream life. Dream shattered, this ex-Marine and private investigator has to find something to fill his time. As an avid fisherman, he decides to start his own charter business. Then, in the beautiful confines of Wade’s new state, a woman is found murdered. Now, Wade’s retirement is interrupted as he’s requested down in Southern Florida to investigate. He answers the call, hungry for something to do. Plus, Wade always did love the thrill of the hunt. As far as he can tell, seriously corrupt characters have something to do with the dead woman, but he needs to make the connection. Some would say he’s too old to be going up against ruffians, but Wade survived a bullet in Viet Nam and big city Chicago crime. He’s ready to bring those responsible to justice, like reeling in a fish at the end of his hook.

Sep 26, 2016OMG! What a great first novel! Overall Wading In is a very satisfying read. Mr. Beck is a delightful storyteller. The two sex scenes will make both a northern and southern girl – of any age – squirm. – sizzling hot! After reading them, I think Mr. Beck will not spend too many lonely nights, as his readership grows. Throughout the murder story, which takes place in Flagler Beach, FL, local residents will recognize the streets, stores, restaurants and scenes and maybe some of the people, but not their names. The author must know his demographics because it is a quick read – especially great if you happen to have a couple of rainy days while on vacation in a condo at the beach. The story has the elements of mystery, surprise, romance, anger, sadness and laughter. Men will like the murder plot and toughness of the main character; women will love the chivalry , romance and tenderness. Throughout it all, Mr. Beck teaches us something about the local culture, the history, geography and... More > natural wonders of the Intracoastal Waterway and the surrounding ecosystem. Admittedly, I initially took offense to some of the language because I know T. Vincent Beck and felt he was talking to me, personally. (It was enough to make a northern girl – again, of any age – blush and a southern belle become downright offended.) I tell you this so as to prepare you because then, I got over the grief he was probably feeling over the death of his wife of half a lifetime, as expressed through vocabulary. I also suspect the vernacular is more Chicago than Flagler Beach. Toward the end of the book, the language calmed down quite a bit and I got to know, and like, the characters. And the story became too interesting to put the book down. I look forward with great anticipation to the next book in the series, which I understand is half on the computer and half still in Mr. Beck’s imagination. And with his growing experience with a keyboard and more time spent on the laid back shores of Florida and less time in the rat-race cities of Illinois, I can imagine more southernese.< Less
