May 15, 2010I just was looking on LULU and saw the book Sunshine Daydream, I almost had a heart attack when I saw the picture of the larger bus on the right. I own that bus, It came with a piece of property that I purchased six years ago in Northern California. If anyone knows how to get in touch with Talia Rose or could give her my email I would greatly appreciate it. This bus still runs and now knowing what a great piece of Grateful Dead history it is I am going to restore it keeping it as original as possible. My email address is firstname.lastname@example.org and I can hardly wait to read Sunshine Daydream.
Apr 21, 2010I loved this book, a powerful and compelling account of life in the Deadheads world of the eighties. As a 64 year old man who saw the Dead only once, at a magical concert at Lane Community College in the early 70's, I loved Ms. Rose's insights into the intensely beautiful and often painful world of life on and off the bus and all that it brought to her. Heartfelt and moving - don't miss it! Dennis in San Francisco
Dec 29, 2009Well I just finished this book a couple of days ago. We are on the road doing art shows and I devoured the book in two days. My brain is swimming with ideas about why I love it so much. At first Im thinking its because I was there and this is such a relevant historical document to my own life, all those places and people, even though the author and I didnt know each other that well back then we traveled the same road for so long and of course so many mutual friends (I spent half the book trying to remember faces and names), but also, as I read the words, the scenes played out like a movie in my head. Strange, I dont think about those days very much anymore but this book brought them back so vividly that I could 'smell' the parking lot. It is a magical story written by a great writer. I realized as I was reading it that this is Tom Robbins at his best. It is the way Talia Rose tells the story, there is not a wasted word. She really knows how to hook the reader into the suspense of the... More > moment and still develop the bigger narrative around it. It is beyond biography, it is a fantastic surreal tale filled with wonderful characters and magical places. I highly recommend this book not only for people who experienced the Grateful Dead scene first hand but anyone who loves to read a great coming of age story and a tale of adventure in the grand tradition of Kerouac and the beats.< Less
Aug 6, 2009"Great Read!!! I wish i wrote this book!!" I tore thru my copy just like a hallway dancer,w/ total abandon. My favorite book on the G D scene . And writ by one of our own,and a Long Island girl. Enough already. Git yerself's a copy of this honest, open, engrossing, waaay entertaining road journal . The bus come by,and I got on!
Aug 6, 2009"Wanna know what the Dead Tour was really like?" This book isn't written by some stiff that a magazine sent to cover the Grateful Dead touring scene, it's written by somebody who actually lived it year after year. The highs, the lows, they good, bad and the ugly. I've read a lot of books about Jerry, The Dead, the counterculture, etc., but this book really takes you to the show, what the parking lot was like, how people paid their way, what they did in the off-season, and the price that a lot of people had to pay when the trip went bad. I couldn't put it down.
