Like all literary ventures, Language, Uncanned aims to locate what is fresh, unexpected, vibrant and stirring in words and expressions that have become otherwise stagnant, predictable, drab or ineffectual. To that end, each of the nine contributors to this publication accepted a challenging assignment: to write a new poem, story or personal essay in response to a cliché assigned to him / her. The results of each author’s efforts are noted in the biographical entries herein.
Language, Uncanned was conceived, designed, constructed, printed and bound by the class members of the Spring 2010 “Intermediate — Advanced Creative Writing” course offered by The Writer’s Garret in Dallas, Texas. The course was taught by Lead Instructor Joe Milazzo (Director of Community Education and Outreach at The Writer’s Garret) and Apprentice Instructors Claudia Meyer and Trey Smith.
