Inspired by artist Judy Chicago’s The Dinner Party, the authors in this anthology navigated their roles as artists and writers. After identifying a significant person they wanted to honor, the eighth graders of The Young Women’s Leadership School of Brooklyn designed and created their own representation of this person, and then wrote an artist’s statement to reflect on the process and purpose of their creation. Within this beautiful collection, readers are provided a unique opportunity to get to know each young woman as an author and an artist.
