Ebelt's deft handling of the science-fiction and suspense genre, (which owes much to the older heroics of the protagonists of Doc Savage and King Solomon's Mines), is offset by his knowledge of Old New Mexico and its history and legends. There is grit, dark deeds and murder afoot which takes place in the brightly lit scrubland and stark mesas and canyons of the desert. There are horrible monsters that are ravenous for flesh. Which seem to be in endless supply. There are strange mysteries beneath the red mesas. Ebelt brings his band of heroes together to uncover those mysteries. The two Nazi villains of Black Sparrow, Walker and Bloundt, find their way back to the Black Sparrow mine to seek gold, revenge and honor. Enter Miss Whitefeather, a beautiful dame who woos everyone into her web of deceit. This book really has a good feeling to it, there is suspense and violence, and yet we care about the characters, even the evil ones, because Ebelt gives life and depth to them all. He writes... More > a Noir detective story that features Navajo magic, secret govt. agencies, strange forces, cryptozoological beasties and a deep understanding of Native American wisdom and fortitude. Whitefeather is a must have book for anyone who has read Black Sparrow. But it is also a great read on its own, which will lead the reader wanting more, leading them right back to Ebelt's Black Sparrow book.< Less
