A great read. You can feel the emotion of the Cuban freedom fighters as they plan, train, and fight in their failed attempt to overthrow the Castro dictatorship that replaced Batista's. You can also feel the rage and frustration of the Cubans and their CIA trainers as the plan falls apart--as so often is the case--in Washington first, then on the battlefield. The invasion plan, hatched and approved on President Eisenhower's watch, but executed on President Kennedy's, failed when Kennedy--our Profiles in Courage president—had neither the courage to support it as planned nor to call it off when his failure to allow the air operations to proceed doomed it to failure. More > and, over the next four decades, to help Castro foment revolution throughout Latin America, causing tens of thousands of deaths—all for failure to follow through with the planned bombing raids by expatriate Cubans on the first day of operations. “For want of a nail ....” Boyd Sutton, Retired CIA analyst< Less
