"More than what it says on the tin..." These are really funny gag cartoons - it should say so in the title, but Tim Harries is either too modest or too tight to pay for extra words on the cover of his book (my money's on the former, but I suspect the latter). If you don't believe me, buy the book. If you do believe me, buy the book. It's a win-win situation! Genuinely funny laugh-out-loud stuff. Go get it!
"One of Britain's Best Cartoonists!" Brilliantly drawn, and really funny! Cartoons don't have to be well drawn to be funny, and conversely, beautifully drawn cartoons aren't always rib-ticklers, but with Tim Harries, you're know you're going to get both qualities in abundance. I fervently recommend this book.
"Chock full of chuckles..." Tim's 'One Hundred and One Gag Cartoons' book is a delightful collection of witty cartoons, many of which have graced the pages of Reader's Digest (UK and US editions) and The New Statesman. His chunky drawing style perfectly complements his 'off the wall' approach to humour and though Tim likes a good pun (or terrible pun, according to your point of view!)he's also very adept at creating surreal cartoon situations which - I have to say - appeal to me more. The front cover is a good example of a truly 'silent' gag, a notoriously hard type of cartoon to execute. My favourites include the women who loves what her friend has done with her hair - that is, used it as curtains, a picture frame, seat covers etc. I also like the one where the man at the party explains to some other guests that his car security measure 'is a bit more fiddly than a crook-lock' while holding his entire car engine under his arm and being almost totally covered in oil! For... More > readers of a certain age the 'L'Hotel Punk' might tickle your fancy. What else can the notice in the window say but 'Pretty Vacant'! Perfect! A thoroughly amusing compilation and to be recommended.< Less
