Alright. It is about time this came out I personally have been waiting nearly a decade. And every day of that was worth the wait. The book itself is a gorgeous hardback of not inconsiderable weight. The spine is sturdy enough to handle years of rereads and flip-throughs for anything you might need. The cover is a wonderful full color piece of art tha really depicts the essence of the game. the interior art work is all black and white. Now a lot of people think a game's ar should be full color and in this case that would be a mistake. The beautiful black and white art only adds o the feel of he game and its world setting. The game system is simple enough for a new gamer to pick up and run with and deep enough to give veteran gamers pause to consider their options. The Feats system allows players to create any character they can think of and customize them accordingly. Mechanically you roll dice equal to one of three dice pools depending on the action you wish to take, Valor for... More > physical combat, Faith for using your beliefs to defend yourself or work miracles, and Will for mental things and casting magic. You roll the entire pool and keep the highest number. You can use up to two feats to add to this number. Compare the outcome to a handy chart on the character sheet to determine if you succeed. For those of you like me who are turned off by the thought of chart comparison don't be. The chart is only has about five outcomes and after a few game sessions you won even need it anymore. Now, the only drawback I really have has to do with the magic system. From the very first game a magic user can do extraordinary things. But the cost of those things gets steep very quick. You can lower these setbacks several ways to counter this, which is all good. However, a character can decide to do something incredible and dramatic, and then roll the greatest succsess possible and still be killed by the magic backlash. I'm all for drama and such but in those situations it feels more like the player is punished fir doing exceptionally well. his of course leads to upset players which is not good for any game group. Okay, that aside this game is still a solid five of five and a must buy for any fantasy gamer. High Valor lets you be the legends without years of being unable to tie your own shoes.< Less
