This book is Timothy W. Scott's 2006 thesis that attempts to resolve the discrepancies between Virginia's relatively young high-altitude coastal plain deposits and the glacial-eustatic sea-level curve. According to the curve, these geologic units with altitudes up to +12 meters were deposited by the ocean when sea level was approximately -25 meters below present. Glacioisostatic influences from the advance and retreat of the great North American ice sheets may have adjusted the altitudes of these units, which would explain these discrepancies. This book also includes new information and ages regarding Virginia's coastal plain geology and provides some insight into possible future sea levels.
