Christmas trees... in February? Dusty peanut butter jars? Carpeted toilet cover sets? Silk ficus trees? While war is serious business, funny things do happen in a War Zone. Follow along as Tom is deployed to defend his country. Just getting there is hard enough. And then the flamingos show up...
Absolutely loved it! Having a daughter in the military, and reading this book make me realize just how much we take for granted as civilians. If you want a pick me up to make you smile, and at times just chuckle out loud, you really need to buy this book. Thanks Thom it was VERY much worth the read!
My daughter was in the Air Force Reserve with Tom, when he was stationed at Seymour Johnson AFB in Goldsboro, NC. I had met Tom on several occasions through my daughter, and she had told me of his wit. I never knew exactly how much wit Tom has until I read his book. I am so impressed with his writing. I wish so many more people would have the chance to read this book and appreciate his talents and experiences. Here at Seymour, so many troops would benefit from reading about his bout with depression. It seems to be a major problem here, with serious consequences. Good job Tom. I am proud to say that I know you.
By Laura Wiley Smith: So well done! I have the pleasure of saying the author is my friend. After reading this HUGE little book, I feel honored to know him. It helps us "civies" to understand the need to have outlets for those who fight so hard to keep us free. It will help to drive home that fact that even if you don't personally know a soldier, they are personally willing to give their life for you to live how you please. Remember that, remember them! Take time to put together a package or letter or ANYTHING, send it to them. It has been a while since Tom has been there, but I know he knows some still there and prays for them every day! At first read, you'll think they are crazy!!! Flamingos and all, let me assure you they are the kind of sane we can all wish to be!!! Blessings to Tom for having the courage to put it all out there and in turn be a blessing to those of us still hanging on by our fingernails!!!!
I bought this book to help a friend support a cause he was passionate about. Really not knowing what to expect, but was wonderfully surprised and moved by the book. This book is funny but also offers insight on what our military experience. This book is worth every penny & then some. It would be a great gift for our military families. Thanks Tom for speaking out and trying to help get Mental Illness not such a taboo word. If this books helps just one person, it has definitely done it's job
