Tom Hennessy is the owner of Colorado Boy Pub & Brewery. It is his sixth brewery over the past 18 years. He is the creator of Frankenbrew, a cult classic 1995 video on how to build inexpensive breweries. This book is the result of years teaching many students how to open their own breweries.
This book will become your "Bible"! The title of this book is exactly what it is alongside some very helpful anecdotes of what other brewery owners would have done differently and what has really helped them succeed in their business! I have read a few books that are brewery focused in hopes to gain some knowledge on the ins and outs of all operations and while other books offer SOME advice Tom really hit the nail on the head--it is DETAILED! This book is nothing short of a kind of gold mine. After reading this book it has absolutely ignited the passion that I have for starting my own brewery and just continues to add fuel to fire when it comes to my drive to make it happen! Also, visit his website at www.coloradoboy.com and take a look into his Immersion program!! I have met folks who have taken it and don't feel like a penny was wasted!! I'm still hoping to get in myself! GREAT read, Excellently written!
Tom writes in such a manner as to make the transition between an advanced homebrew set up and a commericial set up as easy to understand as possible. He also expands upon the brewing components of a brewery to include the easy to forget business side. It takes more than just great beer to be successful as a commericial brewer and Tom helps fill in those gaps. A very quick read and great handbook to have nearby to answer questions.
Excellent Book. Concise and to the point. I can see this book useful to many starting a business even outside the brewing world. The author clearly has an in depth knowledge of the industry and puts onto paper clear some very clear and solid business practices, not to completely rob you of your new romantic notion, but to keep you focused on the steps you will need to cover to realize that dream. Ad a dash of personal anecdotes and some humor and I found this to be well worth the time.
This book is a great follow up to Tom's video, Frankenbrew. If you have never ran a business, like me, this book is has good information and ideas on the business side of brewery. All the ideas have easy to follow examples as well. I am very happy to own this book.
Book arrived in the mail today finally! Been anxiously awaiting it's arrival. I haven't read the whole book yet, but am really disappointed so far. I immediately turned to the section on equipment as that is the main reason for buying the book. Based on descriptions I was expecting a step by step on what you can get, how to hook it up and what the gotcha's are. Nothing. It basically just says "buy this and hook it up". What a waste. Can I return it?
