You, Me and God

ByTom LaPorteSharon Wiley Wright

The wisdom literature, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon, give voice to the ordinary person. These texts tell us that regardless of time, culture or place, we aren’t alone, and life is not completely an anomaly. The wisdom literature is very much alive & breathing. Real life experiences are addressed by the writers, including conflict, petition, praise, protest, ritual, confusion, pain & joy. These texts encompass all that exists between divinity and profane as well as day to day human feelings & emotions. We have attempted something similar with this project. We placed poems from different situations that characterize human life in conversation with the wisdom literature. We haven’t even scratched the surface of the wonder, beauty, & power of the wisdom literature. We offered only a few examples of how our stories join the larger story, which has been the same story over the course of time: a story of the relationship between you, me, and God.
