Jan 24, 2013Wow! Where to start? Well.. this is the best book i have read on Tarot. Better than the bestsellers by the big names. It brought my comprehension rocketing up by many quantum leaps! If you look for reviews of the book it is 5 stars. I'd give it 6. It spells out how the Tarot is a System.. the basic essentials deriving from spiritual metaphysics... the numbers of the cards are not random! It is actually simpler than one might fear! So don't worry, Toni make it easy. Now you can understand why the cards mean what they do rather than pseudo-learning by rote. The elements and numbers give you the feel of the cards so you really stand in confidence with them. With this book you don't need to rely what some DWM says the symbols he put on the cards mean... its elementary! ;D although she does explain the symbols too! Toni is a Tarot historian and a warm and wise counsellor, judging from her writing, so i intend to get readings from her ASAP! She also has new book out Sex & Tarot which i... More > review too. Apr 19, 2009"A well written, well-educated work" Toni Allen obviously knows her stuff. Her handling of the subject matter is erudite and well-educated. The System of Symbols is an entertaining read. I enjoyed it a lot.
Oct 19, 2007A good book for anyone wishing to study Tarot. Actually, the best book on Tarot I have seen since Crowley's The Book of Toth. Toni gives the history, depth and meaning to each card, and explains the interactions (often subtle) between the cards.
Jul 8, 2007"Top of the Class" I only had to read a couple of paragraphs of Toni Allen's amazing book to know that it was well worth buying. The Tarot is demystified and systematically explained from the basic fundamentals up. Don't forget every card is Infinite! So while she does ascribe different meaning for each Arcanum, with handy keywords for the beginner, the permutations readily become apparent. Two and three cards and used from real life examples to illustrate apllications but the real wisdom comes from the structure she spells out so plainly. I could go on for pages on the other many excellent comments and features she makes but short is sweet! The book is an absolute joy and the first and hopefully the last you'd need to buy on The Royal Path. The ratings of a mere two thumbs, tellingly with no qualifying reviews, must surely be suspect. Browse the text if you doubt this tome's greatness!
