In Return to Rocky Gap, the author spans many years of the life of Amelia Sterns Monroe. To read this book is to feelthe author’s imagination of one who lives with Alzheimer ‘s disease. This within itself makes you appreciate this book. With candor, the author writes about the life of Amelia from her early childhood up to the last day of her life. Because this novel covers four generations, you will enjoy the births in the family, but you must also bear the pain of the death of the characters you have come to love. Two characters, you won’t love. One is Amelia’s sister Lydia and later in the story Amelia’s daughter Remmie. To read this novel by the gifted author is to feel that you are another relative of Amelia as you participate in the joys and heartbreaks of the author’s many characters. The book ends as it must end, yet the ending will completely surprise you.
