Jul 13, 2013The book will get you up to speed very quickly and has a lot of very detailed and useful information. Cheetah 3d is a quirky application at best and Tonio's book takes a lot of the confusion out of the application. The design and layout of the book is poor and needs to be updated sooner rather than later along with some editing. he font and font size is desperately difficult to read on screen and have ended up having to print the book. For some reason Adobe DE (mac) would not increase the font size. To conclude. This is the manual that should come with the application, shame about its design.
May 18, 2013I bought this two days ago, and I am already much more comfortable with Cheetah 3D. Well written, clear, and detailed. Recommended if you want to get up to speed quickly, while still having a lot of material for further exploration. I did not have any issue with the EPUB file, looked great on my iPad and also on my Kindle (after converting it to MOBI).
Feb 10, 2013Hello, I feel this book has all the content just the wording and presentation is not the best. I am brand new to Cheetah 3D. I was hoping from a beginners stand point this would be perfect. I think a more step by step would be clearer. I've spent more time trying to understand what is being said than actually doing. Ex: In the tutorial of the mug when it comes time to post add the picture. If doing it in front view the edit mode actually splits the red boxes. After over an hour I realized there is some invisible barrier. By adding to back view it works perfectly. EX2: The BiPlane is driving me mental. Again a true step by step would come in handy. Some terms used such as "faces" ive never heard of. Then it jumps directly into symmetry, then some how creating hexagons on the body. Anyway, my point being the information is there. Just not meant for a rookie. :(
Jan 6, 2013I am the author so I haven't given the book a 5 star rating so as not to bias the other reviews (but I will point out that it rates a solid five stars in the iBookstore). All my ebook readers let me change text size. Upon investigation the text size problem reported by two reviewers seems to be with the poor quality of Aldiko reader (the top-rated ePub reader in Google's Play store, unfortunately) which doesn't allow my book's text to be resized and scales the page oddly. Note that this isn't under my control (neither is the paragraph indentation). If you use Moon+ reader (also highly rated, although as an iPad app it would probably get two stars) the problems (including both text and image size) largely disappear and those that remain can be worked around. Also bear in mind that I offer free updates via the website (email me proof of purchase and I send you the URLs for the latest ePub or PDF at your request). As for Michael Congdon's comments — I spent a good deal of time and... More > thought organizing the book, and had it professionally edited and proof-read by multiple people. I'm sorry he doesn't like it.< Less
Dec 22, 2012Contrary to the other reviews I found the book very clear to read, with easy to follow tutorials. Almost every topic is covered in the book, which has helped me get into Cheetah 3D in a big way. I previously used Solidworks which has a much more formal and restrictive way of modelling in 3D. The tutorials on animation are very clear, which was the main reason I bought this book. At €15 I would see it as good value. I would also point out that the Author was very helpful when I contacted him BEFORE I purchased the book as I was using Aldiko Pro ebook reader on my Nexus 7. The font size issue does not occur in Moon Reader, but did happen in Aldiko. Moon Reader is a much better product than Aldiko, which I didn't know about until the Author suggested it to me.
