Tales from the Captain's Table
Hardcover, 108 Pages

The first chapter has in itself, enough drama to make your book purchase worth while. Now in 2008, the story of the charter yacht 'Fair Exchange' is actively being researched, so that her visit to Puerto Banus in Spain at a historic time in 1972, may be repeated. This hard-backed book is much more than just a tale of sailing against mountainous seas, but ten true stories on every aspect of sailing and the motor boat industry, in many parts of the world. Be assured the book has ten most unusual stories with plenty of excitement when, for example, the charter yachts in Gibraltar attract the law-breakers. Other chapters include unusual projects in China and Nigeria. The ending might leave you feeling there is more to tell. You could be right.

Mar 7, 2008"Message for Tony Harris" Hi Tony, Have just recieved and read your book, which I enjoyed very much. As a sailing instructor I empahised with some of your tails, though as you mention, sailing schools of today are somewhat differant than those of Scimitar. I was particuarly intersted in your book, as I bought one of your old boats, 'Fair Exchange' 3 years ago, and am trying to piece together some of her history (which was described as colourful!). I would be most grateful if you could contact me by e-mail at firstname.lastname@example.org, to see if you might be able to give me a little more history on the boat. Many thanks for a good read.
Mar 31, 2007"Tales from the Captain's Table" If I say I can remember being very happy living without television, you might feel a little doubtful. 'Got a strange one here,' you might think. But I can still clearly remember I was in our garden, catching grasshoppers and putting them in matchboxes, when my mother called me in, to listen on our wireless set to Neville Chamberlain, Britain's prime minister at that time, announce that a State of War existed with Germany. And there-in lies a problem, like many others of my advancing years, in the twilight of our lives, have continued to live through periods when everything around us, was vastly different to what we now find to-day. So when I used to teach yachtsmen and women, relaxing in the evening, sitting around our saloon table, they used to encourage me to tell of my many experiences, usually in some way connected with the sea. They quite frequently encouraged me to write these tales into a book, and this I eventually did, just selecting... More > a period when I was running a sailing school and charter company. Now I'm told, that whilst the ten stories are a good read, certain aspects are difficult to believe. Well, I'm sorry, but they are true, although I can quite understand that Chapter 7, "Remarkable - almost unbelievable," is a hard one to swallow, but there is little I can do to prove it, other to say that at my age, I'd hardly make up a story like that, when there are many others I could have included. I suppose I've been very lucky, having lived through a post-war period, which was so different, completely different in fact, compared with what we find around us to-day. So when you see the blurb on the back cover, "read about adventures that are very likely never to be repeated," perhaps you can believe that? Thank you.< Less
