In 2009, Whitstable Baptist Church celebrated 140 years of Christian witness in this town and it has been my pleasure to produce this booklet and use this occasion to bring together various historical articles, some of which are previously unpublished. There is, naturally, some duplication in these reports but I am sure you will agree that they are worthy of reproduction as they present the view from different angles.
It contains two or three short letters - one from our first minister - and includes an extract from the memoirs of Rev. J. Willis Humphreys - our minister during the Second World War. Then there are the two main histories - one produced for the 75th Anniversary in 1944, and a larger one produced for the Centenary Anniversary in 1969.
Finally, I have taken the liberty of reviewing the 40 years since that Anniversary, which brings us up to date. I trust that you will enjoy reading about our past and that you will be encouraged to support our future.
