Beyond the real estate business, there is a phenomena that exists everywhere on the planet except for the western world, that of building your own home with your own two hands. There is a subject that is sometimes called homesteading where you live out in the country doing a lot of your own stuff, basically self-sufficient, living off the land. I'm interested in alternative homes (log homes, straw homes, underground homes, etc.) and alternative energy away from the grid because I house a back-to-the-woods, self-sufficiency streak within me. If you've got some money, you can hire someone to build a house for you. You can either hire an architect, get a builder to build a home based on home plans you buy, get for free or design yourself or go to any of the many companies which offer custom homes.
