Oct 11, 2013It has been known to take me a month or more to get through one book, but it took me just 3 days to devour this one. I really couldn't put it down! Tori's writing style is so fluid and engaging that you get drawn in immediately and have to really force yourself to stop reading, so that you can do other things. Nothing else mattered for those 3 days and when I reached the end I practically screamed "Why have you stopped?!" The cliffhanger is not a bad thing because I will most definitely be waiting impatiently for the moment book 2 is published, so that I can read on. But, at the same time, I was incensed that I would have to wait for the next book. I didn't want it to end. The story follows Rayvin, a young witch, as she desperately tries to start afresh in her old home town. She knows that it will be extremely difficult and that she's likely to get more than an icy reception from those who remember her from ten years earlier, but she has very few options. She hopes that with... More > her best friend Andrea's help she can build a new life for herself (and her cat) and then run away again as soon as she can afford to, although she keeps that last bit from Andrea. But from the minute she drives into the small town, strange things begin to happen and naturally she is blamed for them all. She fights to prove her innocence and discover what is really going on, while everyone, including her old school crush, Grant, points the finger at her. Throughout her struggle she finds herself encountering Grant time and again. With each encounter they both feel their attraction towards each other, but neither trusts the other. Even once they give in to the passion, they still mistrust each other and argue. Can they ever be together properly? Even Rayvin herself struggles to believe what is happening in the town, how can she convince Grant that vampires really exist, that two people they love are now vampires, and that the Lead Vampire wants her for himself? This story pulls you in every direction, emotions flying everywhere, and leaves you begging for more. There's some romance (and a few naughty bits), a lot of scary stuff, a bit of gore, sadness, tension, hope, and some disorienting moments, too. An absolute must-read, especially in the run-up to Halloween!< Less
