Conor McDermott is a fatalist in every sense who passively accepts his charmed predetermined path as he excels in his education, life and legal career. By pure circumstance, the conservative Catholic boy from the heart of the Midwest finds himself as corporate legal counsel to the morally corrupt and egomaniacal capitalists in the Enron Era of the Houston 1990's. Contrary to his indifferent manner, Conor researches behind the façade of his most dubious client, GrupoCinco, the American enterprise of Mexican financier Benito Diaz. Conor uncovers an underground conspiracy so vast that he becomes trapped by his own intellect. As the comfortable world around him implodes, Conor must execute his perilous escape without alarming his fellow colleagues and newly-found enemies who will go to great lengths to keep their covert operations confidential.
