Trees for the Future (TREES) was launched three decades ago to address issues of deforestation and environmental degradation. We believe that agroforestry technologies are important for addressing environmental and economic problems in developing countries. However, there is a lack of training materials available to individuals in the hard-to-reach communities around the world that need this information. Agroforestry is a collective name for land use systems that combine trees with crops and/or animals on the same unit of land. We have developed the Agroforestry Training Manual to be accessible to any individual interested in sustainable land management for economic development that will not cause environmental degradation. The manual provides an outline of current environmental issues, an explanation of agroforestry technologies, descriptions of appropriate multipurpose tree species for (sub) tropical countries, seed collection and handling methods, and tree propagation and nursery management information.
