“How a Garden Saves the Earth” is a beautiful children’s book about kids growing their own fruits and vegetables and teaches them why it’s so good for them and the Earth. Great for children up to third grade, it is dedicated to helping parents, teachers and homeschoolers educate kids about the importance of locally grown, sustainable food and how it is connected to their health and that of the planet.
The book is written by Trent and Linda McNair, founders of Surf City Growers, a small organic nursery located in Aptos, California. The imagery is by published illustrator, Jeff Petersen.
“How a Garden Saves the Earth” is a perfect accompaniment to the company’s My First Organics seed starting kits, a hands-on activity that teaches Pre-Kindergarten kids to 3rd graders how to grow their own fruits and vegetables. Studies have shown that when kids have a hand in growing food, their understanding of it and its relationship to their health increases.
