Ultimate Football Glory - The South Australian Premiership Prize 1877 to 1977
Usually printed in 3 - 5 business days
The South Australian Football League President Sir Edwin Smith in 1907 made a commitment to organise for the donation of a pennant and caps for the players that a significant prize was presented to the premiership club.
SAFL continued with this practice until the 1923 season (with the exception of the Patriotic Football Association seasons in 1916-18 when the SAFL cancelled its competition due to war effort.)
The winner of the 1923 premiership was awarded a bronze premiership shield and this practice continued until some time before 1963. The shield was usually presented to the winning club at its first match of the following season.
The premiership prize was transformed in 1963 when a perpetual Trophy was presented to the premiership team on the day of the grand final. It has remained in continuous practice as the premiership prize since that year.
