I've know Trevor for years, ever since he was knee high to a graduated cylinder in the lab I was teaching. To me, Trevor was a special student, in that he was years ahead in knowledge, but not in confidence. One day while sitting on my back porch with Trevor, he produced the book. I read some of it on the spot and man, it brought back memories that I felt I had forgotten. It touched a note in me that no other writing ever has, especially poetry. It also gave me insight into this guy who came into my lab and what makes him tick. This is a must read, it really is.
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to purchase a copy of this book directly from the writer (which he happily signed). This collection reads very well. I'd read a poem or two from it separately and found them each to be a little window into the mind of the writer. However, it wasn't until I sat down to read it cover to cover that it develop from a 'window' to more of a guided tour. This collection speaks of growth. Both of a talent and of a person. I highly recommend it!
I bought a copy of this book from the author. When I picked it up a few days later I meant to just read a few pages. I was rushing to complete some errands. Despite that, before I put it down, I found myself thirty pages into the book. I enjoyed the book. Terrific. The contextual prose is super and makes it a journey of reflection and great entertainment. The book is somewhat autobiographical and lets us see how the writer grows with his work. Without the prose, which was excellent I would have also missed some references to popular culture (in this respect I am not "well versed") The book made me think and reminded me why I used to enjoy reading poetry.
