The Hardly Boys: Volume 1 is a collection of short story mysteries set in the early 1980s in Asheville, North Carolina, with two eleven-year-old boys, Tunder and Mark, as would-be detectives. Combining 80s nostalgia with Maxwell Smart antics, the two boys "solve" 12 mysteries—from busting up a diabolical gang of jewel thieves to outwitting Scottish serial killers—causing havoc along the way, and by doing so convince themselves that they're every bit as talented as the Hardy Boys they've read about, characters created by Franklin W. Dixon. Tunder narrates each story as an adult writing his older sister, and it's apparent that he's never outgrown his smugness, conceit or naïveté. With the southern dialect, banter and charm of Huckleberry Finn and Tom Sawyer, The Hardly Boys: Volume 1 will entertain adults and teenagers who enjoy southern satire and the uncomplicated bonds of childhood best friends.

The Hardly Boys, Volume One is a hilarious book that kept me turning pages to discover the mischief Tunder and Mark were going to create next as boy detectives out to save the world. The author has truly captured how pre-adolescent boys think, making this a delightful read. I work in a library and think Tunder Ramsnips’ quirky humor would be over the head of most children, but would appeal to all teens, as well as adults, young and old alike. Readers familiar with Asheville, NC will enjoy revisiting that area through the boys’escapades. I hope volume two is coming soon!

Tunder Ramsnips' book "The Hardly Boys: Volume One" is a spectacular book. The book perfectly captures the imagination that every boy has growing up. The two main characters: Tunder and Mark both seem very realistic and have a lot of charm and character to them. The book is very easy to read since it's split into short stories or "case-files" so it's a great book to take on a trip or if you're life is always on-the-go. The book is filled with nonstop laughter throughout all 196 pages and it keeps you coming back for more every time.
