This is a story about ‘Mooquats’ and learning to love being different. Mooquats are cat-bear-looking animals who share less savory social dynamics with us humans. Norman is an atypical Mooquat who comes to terms with looking very un-like other Mooquats. This 40-page picture book is full of cuteness and life lessons designed for young readers ages 4 to 10 years old.
Uncle Mikey (aka the visual artist Michael Leavitt) first created this book in 1996. At the time he was a kid who thought he had enough figured out to envision a Mooquat’s trials through a complicated world. Uncle Mikey was inspired to revisit Norman after 23 years of cultural change passed and his first child was born. He re-drew the illustrations from scratch with pencil, ink, acrylic paint and digital coloring. New story details were added. The original plot, character designs, and concepts of an 18 year-old artist on the cusp of adulthood are all in tact.
