Jul 31, 2014My goodness, Ms. Knowles, you really do miss the point. People are not celebrating your book for its literary quality; or for its service to the downtrodden. It has got some attention for being moderately salacious (and a little for the ‘horror-factor’ of pushing the boundaries of ethical decency). If you don’t understand the ethical concept that people (not just your nasty bosses, but the other people whose conversations with you were, at the time, presumably held on the basis of a belief that they were between you and them only) you work with have a basic right to privacy then you are not a very bright girl. You talk about people being “kinder” to others. Well, who are you to cast aspersions that someone is a bad father; who are you to log into peoples’ private email or airline booking accounts in order to assert that they are being unfaithful to their wives; who are you to casually describe the “IT guy” as a “fundamental f*@k up”? Was he your boss too? Is this kindness? Are you a... More > moral authority? Yes, we get you were unhappy; yes, we get these people were clearly not very nice bosses (though that is of course subjective). But the point that various critics are making is that you have shown yourself, as well as those characters, to be a distinctly awful employee and a rather unpleasant kind of a person. And, yes, to a woman who casually insults people in her book (even those who weren’t her bosses) it is fair game to call you an ‘unpleasant kind of a person’ because you’ve treated others with an equal lack of sensitivity. The review by Mr. Sangera of the Times (a Cambridge graduate and generally respected journalist) was so apt. He articulated very well what a large number of people must be thinking. That you worked for some dreadful people, nobody disputes. That you were so frivolously indiscreet in your effort to exert revenge makes you no better. Go have your five minutes of fame; make a few quid; get a film deal; I couldn’t care less. But don’t, whatever you do, Ms. Knowles, sit there deluding yourself that you did a good thing (or that you did it well). I’m afraid you did neither.< Less
Jul 25, 2014Review of this 'book' in the times today by Sathnam Sanghera. http://www.thetimes.co.uk/tto/business/columnists/sathnamsanghera/article4157192.ece# Absolutely bang on. More 'rant' than 'book'. Don't get me wrong I have no patience for people who behave like the characters portrayed in the book but the author has behaved in such an ethically abhorrent way neglecting the basic right to privacy that, yes, even nasty bosses are entitled to. Also, the writing is so sloppy. One minute D&D Associates, then D&D Communications (to name but one of the catalogue of inconsistencies). If you actually want to be an author, you need to proof read your work, dear. The hilarious thing is the author clearly believes she's some kind of champion of the underdog. Err...maybe the problem is you, love! PS. the 5 star reviews below are both by people with the surname Knowles. Classic.
Jul 8, 2014This is such a good read. If you've ever worked anywhere you don't even have to have experienced what the subject in the book has to really relate to the story. The author has such as great way with words and really brings it all to life. I'd recommend The PA to anyone. Definitely an Xmas present for all my PA friends!
Jul 4, 2014Wow, what a book. Amazing, I highly recommend. It's almost like she was mole for this job......or atleast new a mole. I want to read more!
