Oct 15, 2009"Re: Opening issue of TOD packs some punch" All the glitches are fixed! Enjoy the magazine!
Nov 14, 2005"Theatre of Decay" I also viewed the PDF, but as an author in issue #1, I was given this free of charge. As part of the contract we were all to be given a free issue of the magazine, but were first told that the issue wouldn't be coming, and then that it would be sent at the end of october, I have not gotten a free copy of this print edition yet. As I am also slated to be a future issue and see on the site that they are no longer giving free copies as payment for the authors, which is quite a dissapointment to someone who can't afford to buy copies of everything she is in. In my story, there was an error, a very simple one that editing would have caught. I do trust that future copies will be better, and I do hope these people succeed. Sep 21, 2005"Opening issue of TOD packs some punch" First, a disclaimer. I have a story accepted for Theatre of Decay, Issue 2, so I have a vested interest in seeing the magazine do well. I bought this first issue, however, AFTER my story had been accepted, because the description of the stories on the TOD website piqued my interest. I bought the download version (viewed through Adobe Reader), for the very reasonable price offered on the Lulu site. I do have three technical comments about the download version. First, the stunning cover art does not appear as part of the download. :-( Second, the numbers on the index page do not line up properly on the right-hand margin. Third, the illustrations, including Paul Campbell's masterful artwork, are occasionally blurred. Other than that, the format is easy to read, and Campbell's illustrations are stunning, well worth the price of the magazine itself. Overall, the magazine represents a great creative effort; the stories are original and... More > there are no hackneyed or trite plots. The writing is somewhat uneven, with some of the stories of more professional quality than others. But the best stories are as good as you will see anywhere, which is quite an accomplishment for a new magazine. I particularly liked "The Plate Licker" by C. Allen Reed, a gross-out tale with a clever ending. "The Gravedigger" is classic flash fiction, probably less than 100 words, but it packs a punch. "F*cakaroni and Cheese" is every bit as weird as I thought it would be. The first page of this magazine contains a disclaimer about adult content, which should be heeded. The editors have lived up to their pledge, of finding the weirdest fiction available out there and publishing it for the world to see.< Less
